Learning and speaking a foreign language was never difficult for me as I grew up bilingual and later had friends from all over the world. This experience made me realise the advantages of understanding different languages. People from different cultures attracted me like a magnet and communicating with them still gives me great pleasure. My first steps as a translator were as a young person when I started translating the song texts of my favourite band. I was always keen on understanding foreign languages. These are the main reasons why I chose English/Spanish translation at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne when selecting my degree programme. The course was multi-faceted, and you learned a lot about the language, history, and culture of the respective country. After the basic studies, I specialised in legal and technical translation. Additionally, I spent a very instructive semester abroad in Sydney, where I participated in specialised translation and interpreting as subjects.

Overall, I learned a lot about the technique of translation during my studies. Unfortunately, topics such as translation software and how to use it were given far too little attention in my time, and thus also the preparation for the translator’s profession, because CAT tools are an essential part of this profession. This prompted me to learn how to use the most important CAT tools during my professional life. In the summer of 2007, I graduated from university as a translator and was ready to start my career. I went through many stages in the language and translation branch until I finally set up my own business. I took advantage of the pandemic and completed a training for being a certified translator. This additional qualification was indeed my best decision and investment. By specialising in the field of legal translation and certification, I set myself a focus. This specialisation enables me to offer professional translations at the highest technical level. You can also find me in the database of the e-Justice portal of North Rhine-Westphalia (Justizportal Nordrhein-Westfalen).
